Are Schools Killing Entrepreneurship?

Are Schools Killing Entrepreneurship?

What do you think? I think they are! I’ll explain why in a moment.

We all have that special moment in our lives when we realise that we want to become entrepreneurs. What was your defining moment – the moment you decided that you wanted to be an entrepreneur and have your own business?

Maybe you haven’t had that moment yet? Hopefully with my help you will start to realise that it really is all about working for yourself and owning your own business; Building a brand that you can be proud of and pass down to your family.

The way we are socialised in school means we have to conform to everything, we are not allowed to ask stupid questions, so that kills our curiosity.

When I was in school I used to sell sweets, but stopped when the teachers were starting to become aware of my activity!

My brother went in hardcore selling cookies! Mum and Dad used to buy him lots of cookies and he used to make like £15 a day profit! Everything was fine until the teachers saw like 5 people all eating the same cookies! They then ‘somehow’ found out it was him and told him to stop.

Now I don’t know about you but that to me just kills entrepreneurship.

People who sell sweets at school should be allowed to as it encourages them to work for themselves and have their money work for them. They are experiencing business at a young age. That’s what their passion is at that time so let them do it right?

What do you think?

Have you experienced something similar?

Did any of you ever go to school where you were told to shut up sit down and just listen? I was!

Were you taught to wear uniform?

Think about what that does, it teaches us to think in a certain way uniformly – not being entrepreneurial and not thinking outside the box. So your going to get exactly the same results as the majority of the population!

If you want to have the same results as the rest of the population ie. the masses – (which is being in debt by the time you retire) then you only need to look around you at what most people are doing.

DO THE OPPOSITE!

Be different! There’s no need to conform just because everyone else is. In business its the person who differentiates them-self and adds the most value that wins.

Does/did your school encourage you to think like an entrepreneur?

What about your business class?

Yes,schools are killing entrepreneurship. Im a student and we are told to dress accordingly, sit down, shut up,listen and to stop ‘asking stupid questions in my class’. It is sad but those entrepreneurs to be will realise this, break free and find their own way ,eventually.

I agree with you here, I wasn’t one of the kids selling stuff at School. However I had a friend who did and his goods were in demand but he got shut down by the suits :P Another thing which Schools do to cure entrepreneurship is the fact that they teach you to work for money and get a steady paid job.

@ Daniel, yea school is designed to teach you how to WORK for money, not how to MAKE money. They don’t teach us how to provide value! Thanks for sharing your comment

    Hey Aaron

Fantatic blog post as always, such a good message, that I have to say I agree with. You always get taught, go to school, study hard, go to uni, get a job.
Is that REALLY the path that the successors of our era followed?! It sure isn’t.. so who knows why schools & parents push this “idea” so much. Maybe because they all did the same.. but it is important to stand out and be different, think outside the box and let your inner entrepreneur shine through! Not everyone has that flair.. so if you have it, USE IT!

    Thanks for sharing Aaron!

School does limit students’ potentials due to their own restrictions, in which some sanctions are not really relevant or necessary to a learning environment.Experience is still the best mentor, it can teach us more about life and how it works. Given that people tend to internalize what they learn once it affects them emotionally.

Well, gambling is obviously prohibited in schools, but the idea teaches us more about life and risks, LOL :)

You certainly have something good here to share with the world man.

    Regards,
    Jason

Experience is the best mentor for sure!
And gambling does teach you about risk but maybe not in the best way!

    Thank you Jason!

My opinion is that schools are a way of enslaving people. Even if the masses get the proper education, they will never develop the right traits for leadership, even if the strike it rich, the will never know how to handle the newly acquired wealth.

Schools breed entrepreneurs! without a school system in place, showing people what to do to be stuck in the rat race, and conform to socially acceptable norms of going to school, uni & getting a job or being broke the rest of their lives.

Without the frustration of schools true entrepreneurs wouldn’t thrive. Most entrepreneurship starts at school, it just a case of how determined that entrepreneur is to succeed!

Having the right frame of mind, application & dedication, as an entrepreneur will ultimately determine not only your level of success, but, how quickly and for how long.

What do you think it takes to be a successful entrepreneur?

Yes agreed Paul, and I think you need to be hungry. Anyone whos ever achieved anything worthwhile has had that hunger right from the very start. It is the one thing that you cannot give to someone. If you are not hungry – get around people that are hungry and something will hit you.

It takes an excessive FOCUS to be successful – never lose focus of your VISION.

And most importantly take action towards your vision and dreams every single day.

    Hey Aaron,

I am 14 years old. Yea 14! And I LOVE Internet Marketing. I have made quite much, not too much, but yea, I have made something. And what I like is not money! It is “results”.

I have never been stopped in school, but I think to myself, “Am I doing something wrong?”. Parents say to their children to start practicing SAT’s and stuff when they are young, and I am just practising too!

    What do you think?

I cant get away with it! I have been into this for 2+ years now, and know quite a lot.

Infact, I have teamed up with a guy online, to make my first ever software product which I am going to launch, just like you did with PBM. I have invested my $1000 which I have made online, in all these years…..basically in this only!
