You make a very good point about happiness. I think one of the crucial things for people to realise is that they are not their earnings or their house or anything else. In Western society, we’re taught to define ourselves by our possessions and not our attributes or even achievements.
Not focusing on the lack is the hard thing to do, but the one that rewards you most by doing it, as it helps shift your mindset to what you do have, which in turn can make you feel good.
I see what you mean about other cultures, but I’m not sure people need to go to the slums of India to see poverty that will inspire them to think differently. Many people wouldn’t be able to afford the trip in the first place! What ways could people use to inspire themselves to think more like those cultures, and why do they think so differently?
Anyway, thanks for prompting some useful self-reflection.
